Congratulation to Professor Heather McFarlane, who has earned the C.D. Nelson Award from the Canadian Society of Plant Biologists (CSPB) for “an outstanding publication record, substantial research funding, and successful training of highly qualified personnel.”
This award is presented to early career researchers who have made outstanding research contributions to plant biology incorporating originality and independence of thought.
McFarlane’s group discovered new molecular mechanisms involved in cell wall synthesis, and defined the extent to which cell walls can be modified without triggering responses such as growth limitation and yield loss.
McFarlane has supervised and mentored 31 Undergraduate and 12 graduate students while teaching and maintaining her research program as Canada Research Chair in Plant Cell Biology.
McFarlane has an impactful future ahead as she joins an impressive group of Nelson winners including CSB Professors Darrell Desveaux and Daphne Goring. Congratulations!
